Our History

At age fourteen, Jack Morgan began work as a printer's apprentice in a local print shop, working after school and on weekends. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1949, married Virginia Tripp in 1950, and served in the U.S. Air Force for several years before returning to Greenville and the printing industry. Deciding to "take the plunge," Jack and Virginia Morgan borrowed $5,000 to launch Morgan Printers in Greenville in 1958. Jack served as president. Virginia served as secretary and treasurer. The company was incorporated in 1964 and remains a closely held corporation.

Jack's oldest son, Jack Morgan, Jr., joined the family business full-time in May 1975 after graduating from Chowan College with a degree in printing technology. The younger Morgan has worked part-time in the business since age 16, performing a number of tasks from sweeping floors to running the presses. In 1978, Jack, Jr. became vice-president of sales and production.

After renting facilities at three different locations, the family decided to build its own printing facility at 3001 South Evans Street in January 1984. Within five years, the company generated enough business to warrant two expansions to the original facility. After Virginia Morgan's passing in August 1989, and Jack Morgan, Sr.'s passing in June 1995, Jack Morgan, Jr. assumed the role of company president, carrying on the tradition of printing excellence started by his father.

Today Morgan Printers is one of the largest independent commercial print shops in Pitt County and eastern North Carolina. It has come a long way since founder Jack Morgan, Sr. learned to typeset and run a hand-operated letterpress. One thing about the business, however, has remained unchanged: the level of quality and service that we provide our customers. Jack Morgan, Jr. is especially proud that many dedicated employees and skilled craftsmen make our work more enjoyable and are our number one asset.
